Artist Statement

As an artist, a black plus size female artist, my job is disrupt and deconstruct the irrational beauty standards and old ideations that are forced upon us. We are taught to be a strong, we are taught that peace is something we have to work hard for. Work is something we have to devote our lives to. BEAUTY is a mold we have to “fit” into. A mold I have no desire to fit into. Growing up the “beauty standards” said my curves were too curvy, my nose was too wide, my skin was too dark, my hair was too curly. Dear beautiful black-girl, This collection is for you. Its a reflection of you. Its a visual and physical representation of what we deserve. We deserve peace. We deserve to see beauty in the mirror. We deserve to be soft delicate beautiful black girls. We deserve peace in all aspects of our live. Fuck those “standards” and “ideations”. Exist in this space unapologetically and beautifully YOU!
